Where to Find Spyglass in Minecraft

Look in Amethyst Geodes (Y -64 to 30 in Overworld) for Spyglass, because no other biome on our list carries Spyglass. Vertically Spyglass is tied to the Y -64 to 30 range, which is the band to dig in rather than wandering at random depths for Spyglass. Amethyst Geodes are spherical structures found underground, identifiable by their smooth basalt outer shell. Listen for chiming sounds near geodes to locate them while caving. The main non-crafting route to Spyglass is mining or smelting it from its raw form.

The most reliable way to get Spyglass is to craft it at a Crafting Table from Amethyst Shard and Copper Ingot: 2 ingredients, a fixed grid, and no luck involved anywhere. Crafting Spyglass needs Amethyst Shard (mine fully grown amethyst clusters in geodes) and Copper Ingot (smelt copper ore, abundant between Y 0 and Y 96), and each of those has its own place in the world to come from. Only fully grown Amethyst Clusters drop shards; smaller buds drop nothing without Silk Touch. Copper ore generates abundantly between Y 0 and Y 96, peaking at Y 48. For the mining route, stay at the Y-64 to 30 band and tunnel methodically, since this material is sparse and does not appear exposed on most cave walls. Remember that Spyglass does not stack: every one you pick up takes an inventory slot of its own, nine of them fill the hotbar and 27 fill a chest, so bring storage if you plan to collect several.
